Customs clearance in Poland: the top three risks
Being a member of the European Union Poland has to follow the Union Customs Code (UCC), which at the basic level unifies the customs operations across all member states. However, in order to prevent costly penalties for not fulfilling the local requirements, it is important to navigate country-specific law enforcement or IT systems.
Agnieszka Kisielewska, partner, tax adviser at MDDP outlines the most common pitfalls to consider in effective risk management of customs clearance:
“Managing customs clearance risks in Poland requires proactive strategies. Staying compliant is essential for efficient, cost-effective, and safe trade operations.
By addressing common pitfalls such as classification errors, incorrect valuations, and missing documentation, importers and exporters can avoid costly delays and penalties, especially as customs systems evolve. Additional risk areas are associated with VAT requirements and sanctions due diligence”.
